A lot of the magic of great photography is actually the editing. If you're going to the effort of a photoshoot, it's well worth having all of your favourite images edited so you look as good as possible.
Professional editing is when a photo is improved in Photoshop in a completely natural looking way. It is not like those tacky app filters that blast out all skin detail and make you look fake.
My editing has two stages: (1) Natural Skin Retouching and, optionally, (2) Digitally Matched Locations. Details of what this means below.
Skin retouching is the traditional process of cleaning up an image, removing blemishes that aren't fundamentally part of your look, and making you look as good as possible in a natural way. Strategic slimming of body parts can often also be done, if required. This is not cheating any more than it is to breathe in or wear flattering clothes! Retouching is just a way of guaranteeing you're having a good skin day and looking your best.
Using cutting edge AI technology, I can enrich your photos with completely natural looking bespoke digital backgrounds that complement your look and style perfectly. This enhances your photos with atmosphere and glamour in a way that simply wasn't possible until very recently. It's breathtaking, game-changing tech that no one else offers yet, and you get to benefit from it first.
We shoot indoors at my studio or outdoors, depending on the look you are after. I then generate entirely new complimentary backgrounds of your favourite images, carefully matching the lighting and perspective of your photos so that they look seamless, realistic and immersive.
This is much more sophisticated than just sticking an existing image behind you with old green screen technology. This is custom generating an entirely new and believable background that looks seamlessly real because it matches the lighting, mood and angles of the original shot perfectly. The technology is amazing.
So you get beautiful, editorial quality images with subtle, dreamy backdrops - without the need for complicated photoshoots on location. No one will know how or where the magic was done. Whether you want natural looking photos or more glamorous ones, this exclusive service allows me to create magazine worthy shots for you right from my studio and outdoors nearby, giving you gorgeous photos you'll cherish forever.
Editing is a lot of work but I love the creativity, so at the moment I only charge £20 per image that you want edited. The Standard package includes editing of your favourite 5 images and the Deluxe includes editing of your favourite 10, both at a discount. With all edited images you'll get versions with and without the Digitally Matched Location background so you have both options.
Yes! Almost every other studio and photographer charges you per photo in addition to the shoot, meaning that you end up spending hundreds of pounds more than you thought. All of my prices include all the photos we take, so there's nothing extra to pay on the day.
Part of the magic of good photography is taking lots of variations of any one pose so that you have lots of options when choosing the best ones you want to use. Most studios only let you have a few of the photos, but I find that people really like having the outtakes too, as there are often lots they like and want to use. So you'll get all the photos we take.
The number of photos in a shoot varies with factors like how long you spend changing, whether you're changing your make-up, etc. We'll take at least 100 variations, though, and you'll get to keep all of them at no extra cost.
Over many years of doing this (full-time since 2007) I've found that people consistently prefer photos when they feel more like themselves, so my shoots are now all 'own make-up'.
In my experience women always assume they'll benefit from a make-up artist, but because professional make-up feels much heavier than you're used to, it feels 'caked on' and will tend to make you look ten years older.
It's especially important to look natural in a portfolio because agencies want to see your raw potential. This is also why my prices aren't several hundred pounds more, so you'll save a lot of money as well.
Whatever you'd do for an evening out will look fine, whether that's loads of make-up or none at all - the important thing is that it feels comfortably familiar.
I recommend the Standard or Deluxe package because they include some professional editing, and editing is what fixes skin blemishes and the things that people typically hope make-up will improve, but in a much more subtle and natural looking way.
I'll give you lots of detailed suggestions when you book, but you can wear whatever you like and the photoshoot is entirely customised to the styles you want to do. Usually a range covering smart, casual and sporty is good to show variety.
There are a handful of reputable, accredited model agencies out there and a whole lot of dodgy ones that make all their money from the girls themselves instead of getting you work. If you're considering sending your photos to agencies, I'm very happy to offer free impartial advice throughout the shoot, and will tell you how to avoid the bad agencies and 'modelling platforms' and also how best to approach the legitimate ones.
I don't do any shoots with babies, children or families, I'm afraid, only adults and teenagers whose idea it is to do the shoot themselves. Working with kids (who may not want to be there!) is a different set of skills and isn't what I'm good at.
My studio address and answers to all the other questions people usually ask are here. And feel free to contact me any time; I'm very happy to help answer any questions you have.
